EV charger spots

EV charging in a controlled lot: parking and charging rules

Electric vehicle (EV) charging and parking access are separate services. Permission to enter a parking lot does not necessarily authorize charging, and a valid charging session does not necessarily cover parking fees. Drivers need to understand both services before they arrive.

The decision

Define the two services

State who may enter the lot, who may use the charging bays and which fees apply to each. Decide whether the spaces are reserved, shared or available subject to capacity.

Lexoh coordinates parking permissions and entrance equipment. Charger control, energy measurement and charging-network billing require the specific equipment and integration agreed for the project.

Give drivers clear price and time information

Explain parking charges, charging charges and any approved time limits before the driver commits to the stay. Identify the source of each receipt and the contact responsible for a disputed transaction.

If overstays or idle fees are proposed, define the trigger and data source. A parking entry time does not establish when charging started or ended.

Establish which status can be trusted

A car in a charging bay, a cable connected and an active charging session are different states. Confirm which are observable through the charger, parking equipment or another agreed source.

Do not label a bay “available” solely because no parking right is assigned to it. The charger may be offline, occupied or physically inaccessible. Define how operators correct stale information.

On a narrow screen, scroll the table horizontally to see every column.

Records that answer different questions
RecordWhat it can establishWhat it does not establish alone
Parking entry Observed entry or access event Start of charging
Charger session Charging activity reported by its system Permission to remain parked indefinitely
Parking payment The parking product or stay paid Payment for electricity
Bay observation Presence in the monitored space Energy delivered

Scope the integration explicitly

Identify the charger provider, supported interface, records exchanged and party responsible for support. Include what happens when one platform is available and the other is not.

Test a session start, failure, cancellation and completed charge alongside parking entry and exit. A shared user interface does not by itself establish unified billing or control.

Manage the physical space

Assign snow clearance, signage, cable-area upkeep and response to a blocked or damaged bay. Establish the approved process for vehicles exceeding the allowed period.

Review exceptions with both the parking and charging teams. Useful measures include inaccessible bays, failed sessions and support requests, with parking and energy transactions kept distinguishable in financial records.

Questions

Practical questions

Does paying for charging also pay for parking?

Only when the site explicitly offers and implements that combined service. Read the posted parking and charging terms. For a project, identify the seller, receipt and refund procedure for each charge; do not infer a combined payment from one app or one access credential.

Can we retain our existing chargers?

Possibly. Provide the charger models, network operator, supported interface and account permissions for review. Specify whether the project needs only parking access or also session status, charging commands and billing data. Confirm each required exchange and its support owner before promising compatibility.

Can a parking system start the charger?

Only through a supported, specified integration. A parking permission alone does not command charging equipment.

Can entry and exit times measure charging duration?

No. Charging-session data is needed to establish charging duration. Parking observations measure a different interval.
