Parking intercom
Parking intercoms: who answers and what can they do?
An intercom gives a waiting driver a way to ask for help. Whether that request is resolved depends on who answers, what they can verify and what actions the site permits.

The decision
Define the response service first
A parking intercom connects a call point at an entrance, exit or payment station to the team assigned to assist drivers. List the locations that need assistance: entrance, exit, pay station or pedestrian access. For each, name the team covering operating hours and the backup outside them.
Lexoh’s parking intercom solution connects configured call points and operating workflows. A staffed response is a separate responsibility from the hardware and must be included explicitly in the operating plan or service agreement.
Route by location and coverage
The responder needs to know which site and entrance are calling. Configure routing around actual staffing, including holidays and shift changes. Define where an unanswered call goes next.
Test the handoff to the backup recipient. A list of phone numbers is not a verified escalation path until calls reach the intended people under the expected conditions.
On a narrow screen, scroll the table horizontally to see every column.
| Situation | Assign before opening | Acceptance check |
|---|---|---|
| During staffed hours | Primary team and named call point | Correct site identification and understandable two-way audio |
| Primary team unavailable | Backup recipient and transfer conditions | Busy, unanswered and shift-change calls reach the agreed destination |
| Outside service hours | Published instructions and local contact | Driver can understand the next step without assuming a remote operator is present |
Show only the context that is available
Depending on the configuration, an operator may review recent access events, device status and connected camera views. Access to reservations or transactions depends on the relevant workflow and integrations.
Demonstrate the operator’s real workspace before handover. Someone answering a voice call should not be assumed to have every console view available at that moment.
Separate assistance from opening authority
For each request, specify what the operator checks and whether they can correct a record, authorize an exception or command an entrance. A caller reporting a valid booking or payment still needs the agreed verification.
Confirm what action records are retained and how staff add any required reason. A remote command does not prove that the barrier moved or the vehicle passed; include feedback appropriate to the task.
Test the difficult calls
Test engine noise, reader failure, a disputed payment and an unanswered call from the installed position. Provide readable instructions for what to do when the service cannot be reached.
Review connectivity and power dependencies. A failed communications path can remove remote assistance even if some local credential decisions continue. Assign a local response for damaged equipment and blocked lanes.
Questions
Practical questions
What if a driver cannot use audio assistance?
Include a usable alternative in the site plan, such as an available written contact channel or local assistance. Confirm the actual equipment and service support for that option, display clear instructions and test it with the intended users. A telephone number alone does not solve every communication need.
Can the call answerer automatically open the barrier?
Answering the call and being allowed to operate the entrance are separate permissions. Confirm the responder’s workspace, allowed actions, verification steps and available status feedback. When a request is outside that authority, follow the named escalation path.
Does installing an intercom include overnight support?
No. Confirm staffing and service hours in the operating plan or service agreement.
Can the responder always see video?
Only where the camera, integration and operator access are configured and available.
